Underwater Cameras
The ocean is one of the most glorious natural sights in the world, but often photography enthusiasts forget it can be pictured from below as well as above. Divers have increasingly taken up the practice of carrying an underwater camera with them below the surface to capture the beautiful scenes of the sea. Underwater photography requires very specialized equipment. Normal camera equipment cannot hold up in the watery world of the ocean. Underwater cameras are specifically designed to function in these conditions.
Like with surface photography, the diver has the choice between more simple point-and-shoot cameras and more complicated SLR cameras. These days, either choice can be most easily found using digital photo storage rather than film. This allows the diver to take many more pictures without being faced with the problem of switching film rolls.
Waterproof cameras are rarely constructed anymore; these days, camera manufacturers focus on adapting already constructed cameras with waterproof casings. This is quite convenient as it may mean that any diver who already possesses a camera for land use may need to simply buy a new casing. Underwater casings provide controls that let the diver operate all the normal functions of their camera without the risk of exposing it to harmful conditions. In addition to these special casings, many flashes and lenses are also designed specifically for underwater use. Because of the lack of light that tends to filter through the water on dark days or at deeper depths, a good flash is especially necessary to make subjects visible.
