Divers Diving Watches
Diving watches are special water-resistant watches that are watertight down to at least 100 meters. The average watch will be watertight between 200-300 meters, though higher-end watches utilize new technology that allow them to go much deeper. Diving watches come with both analog and digital displays, though many divers prefer the latter for ease of use.
The standards for water resistance are set by the International Organization for Standardization. ISO 6425 is the standard for diving watches, and includes many reliability and stress tests. You can make sure your watch meets the standards by locating the word “DIVER’S” somewhere on the casing. Diver’s watches are tested to be shock resistant, chemical resistant, and magnetic resistant as well as watertight.
Diver’s watches come in many different designs. The key aspects to check for when selecting one are comfort and usability. Your watch should never be uncomfortable or impede your wrist movement. You should always rinse your wash in fresh water after diving to keep it clean and in good working order. Be sure to also frequently check the band to make sure it has no weaknesses that could cause it to break off while you’re diving. Most diving watches may feature a type of rubber strap in addition to the usual watch band to make them easier to wear over your wet suit. Most diving watches also feature some sort of power or battery indicator. You should monitor this closely to make sure that your watch always has enough power before beginning your dive.
